We are delighted to have been invited to play at the Big Pink Cake Christmas Party 2014 on Saturday 13th December – we’re amongst some great bands playing and to top it all there’s VIC GODARD! It’ll be a select 5-piece version of the HLC but we’ll be playing some new songs and some old, as well as a Christmas cover sung by the lovely Bernice:

I know that sounds like the title of a double-gatefold LP with Matt striking a rock pose on the front but it’s true, we are indeed playing a rare show at the Cafe Kino in Bristol on Saturday 6th September as part of My Little Owl’s Best of the Southwest night!

Tickets are available here: http://www.bristolticketshop.co.uk/eventdetails.aspx?e=6494

We will have copies of our new album with us (and the old one too) for anyone interested in purchasing a copy for a shockingly reasonable price

It will be a full line-up playing, and I think we’re on about 9 – there’s loads of great bands playing throughout the day starting at about 4 with some acoustic music, top DJ’s and ourselves and others on downstairs in the evening

One of the songs we’ll probably be doing from the new album is this one – see you there!

Fantasy Festival

14 Apr

BBuzzedchella

Raul from the always wonderful Bloodbuzzed blog recently uploaded a great ‘fantasy festival’ poster featuring bands he would love to see play live over 3 days at Bloodbuzzedchella, an alternative to Coachella Festival. The Hi-Life Companion are on stage on the Saturday night squeezed inbetween fuzzy pop duo, Young Romance, and Kiwi jangle-popsters, Trick Mammoth. Also on the same day we have Alpaca Sports, Lambchop, The Very Most, The Concretes, The Lucksmiths, McCarthy, Teenage Fanclub, Camera Obscura, Crowded House (the 1996 years!), The Decemberists, 10,000 Maniacs, The Beautiful South and top-of-the-bill, REM. Wow! That would be some line-up! Check the complete festival here.

The Hi-Life Companion new album release date!

21 Mar

Image

The Hi-Life Companion’s new album ‘Our Years in the Wilderness‘ will be released on the 16th June – with a track or two available for download before then. It’ll be available through CD Baby, ITunes, Amazon and of course, us.

It features 11 brand new songs, mixed by the evergreen and ever-patient Mr James Muir and mastered by Chris Bauer. It’s taken the band at least four years to make and we’re told that the they have no intention of making another one for quite some time, so fed up are they with click-tracks, computers, trillions of tuneless takes and staring at waveforms. On the bright side the band plan to play a few shows later this year and are in fact already rehearsing in a barn IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE which is apparently like The Big Pink but without the Pink.

We love the sound of the new album and we hope you will too – it’s dark, romantic, brooding and melancholy but with plenty of tunes, harmonies, trumpets and strings.

We’ll update this site with more details nearer the time, and also any tour dates
